Coming to Netflix in early February, Les Lionnes takes the classic bank heist setup and turns it into a character-driven action comedy about five women pushed to the edge. Created by Olivier Rosemberg and Carine Prévot, the French-language series unfolds in working-class neighborhoods in the south of France before extending to the Paris region, blending genre thrills with a grounded social backdrop.

Five women, one desperate plan, and consequences they can’t control

At the heart of Les Lionnes is a group of five women facing mounting financial pressure. Instead of following professional criminals or mastermind thieves, the series starts with ordinary people who decide to rob a bank to try to fix their lives. To pull it off, they disguise themselves as men, a choice that immediately sets off a chain of events none of them can really manage.

What begins as a single robbery quickly snowballs. Their act attracts the attention of law enforcement, political figures, and criminal organizations. The show is less about the perfect crime and more about what happens when one desperate decision becomes a turning point that reshapes every aspect of their lives.

  • Eight episodes, each 52 minutes long
  • A story that moves between Marseille, Salon-de-Provence, and the Paris area
  • A mix of humor, suspense, and a strong social lens

Behind the camera: how Les Lionnes was made

Les Lionnes brings together a compact creative team. The series is written by Olivier Rosemberg, Carine Prévot, and Mahault Mollaret, with Rosemberg also serving as director. Production is handled by Les Films Entre 2 & 4 and Bob Story.

Filming took place in two main phases: first in southern France from September to November 2024, then in Paris and the surrounding region from January to February 2025. This split shoot reflects the show’s narrative movement between coastal and urban settings.

The show follows in the footsteps of Rosemberg’s earlier collaboration with Netflix on Family Business, while shifting to a different tone. This time, the focus is squarely on themes of solidarity and on the tensions that appear when a one-off act of survival turns into something that repeats and escalates.

The cast: a women-led ensemble with standout supporting roles

The main cast is built around five actresses: Rebecca Marder, Zoé Marchal, Naidra Ayadi, Pascale Arbillot, and Tya Deslauriers. Each of them plays a woman with her own path and struggles, but their stories intersect around a common urge to regain control over their lives.

Alongside this core group, the series also features Jonathan Cohen, François Damiens, Brahim Koutari, Lucas Mortier, Ali Gendi, Victor Sansano, and Anastasia Augst. Together, they help shape a world that constantly moves between comedy, tension, and personal stakes.

Les Lionnes will stream on Netflix on February 5, carrying a storyline that explores how far you can go with resourcefulness, friendship, and risky choices before everything spirals out of control.

What to expect from Les Lionnes on Netflix

Fans of heist stories can expect familiar elements—robberies, pursuits, mounting pressure—but framed through the lens of everyday women rather than seasoned criminals. The show leans into humor without abandoning suspense, and uses its French working-class setting to ground the action in recognizable economic and social pressures.

Instead of glamorizing crime, Les Lionnes highlights the emotional cost of crossing the line, the bonds that form under stress, and the contradictions that appear when survival strategies start to repeat and harden into a new way of life.
