On January 15, 2026, Netflix is betting on a vintage mystery with a fresh edge: Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, a three-part limited series adapted from the 1929 novel by the legendary crime writer. Scripted by Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch, Doctor Who), the show aims to combine the elegance of a traditional English whodunit with a sharper, more modern sensibility built around social games, irony, and simmering tension.

A country house prank that spirals into murder

The story jumps back to 1925, inside a lavish English country estate where the upper class spends its days orchestrating pranks between cocktails and minor scandals. What begins as a harmless joke takes a deadly turn when a young man is discovered dead in bizarre, almost absurd circumstances.

At the center of the mystery is Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent, played by Mia McKenna-Bruce (How to Have Sex). She’s a young heiress, quick-witted and reckless enough to throw herself headfirst into danger. Convinced that the supposed accident hides a darker truth, she starts digging and uncovers a much larger conspiracy that reaches into politics, secret societies, and a maze of deceptions.

A high-profile British cast around Bundle Brent

Netflix surrounds Mia McKenna-Bruce with an ensemble of seasoned British actors designed to embody the mix of sophistication and bite that defines the show.

  • Helena Bonham Carter (One Life, The Crown) plays Lady Caterham, a spirited, eccentric mother figure.
  • Martin Freeman (The Responder, Sherlock) appears as Superintendent Battle, a dry, methodical investigator.
  • Edward Bluemel (Killing Eve) takes on the role of Jimmy Thesiger, a charming dandy whose motives are anything but clear.

The supporting cast also includes Corey Mylchreest (Queen Charlotte), Nyasha Hatendi, Nabhaan Rizwan, Alex Macqueen and Guy Siner, bringing together a distinctly British lineup that leans into style, wit, and character-driven tension.

Chris Chibnall’s take: honoring Agatha Christie while shaking things up

Known for crafting intricate mysteries in Broadchurch and reimagining Doctor Who, Chris Chibnall applies his flair for pacing and morally ambiguous characters to the world of Agatha Christie. His approach suggests a version of Seven Dials that remains rooted in the source material while playing up character dynamics and suspense.

The series is produced by Suzanne Mackie (The Crown) through her company Orchid Pictures, making this project its first outing. Mackie describes Les Sept Cadrans as “a bold and witty reinterpretation of one of Christie’s most underestimated novels.” All three episodes are directed by Chris Sweeney (The Tourist), ensuring a cohesive visual and tonal identity from start to finish.

James Prichard, Agatha Christie’s great-grandson and president of Agatha Christie Limited, is also involved in the production. He highlights the importance of Bundle Brent, calling her “one of the liveliest and most modern female characters imagined by [his] grandmother.” The series clearly positions Bundle as a driving force, with her energy and curiosity pushing the narrative forward.

From England to Spain: locations that set the tone

Filmed in Bristol, Bath and Ronda (Spain) during the summer of 2024, the show visually embraces the codes of classic British period adaptations while infusing them with contemporary momentum. The settings promise stately homes, outdoor grandeur, and atmospheric European landscapes that frame the intrigue.

The teaser, released on November 4, 2025, showcases a meticulously crafted world: masked balls, lush gardens, chandeliers, and a shifting tone that balances crime drama with social comedy.

A tight three-episode mystery for fans of elegant crime stories

With its three streamlined episodes and carefully selected cast, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials positions itself alongside recent Christie adaptations such as The Pale Horse and Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? At the same time, it carves out its own space by putting the spotlight firmly on its heroine’s vitality and initiative.

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials
Global release: January 15, 2026 on Netflix
Created by: Chris Chibnall – Directed by: Chris Sweeney

For viewers who enjoy refined mysteries set in glamorous yet treacherous worlds, the clocks of Seven Dials may well be counting down to the moment when every lie comes due.
