Peter Sutherland is heading back into the field. Netflix has officially locked in February 19 as the launch date for season 3 of The Night Agent, with the series stepping outside its usual borders and pushing its hero into a wider, international arena. The new chapter, driven by creator Shawn Ryan, promises fresh locations, higher stakes and deeper power plays inside Night Action.

A reinforced ensemble around Gabriel Basso

At the center of this new season, Gabriel Basso is back as Peter Sutherland, now fully embedded in the Night Action program. His character is no longer circling the edges of the operation: season 3 positions him as an active field operative, answering directly to Catherine Weaver, once again played by Amanda Warren.

Several familiar faces from earlier seasons are moving up within the show’s hierarchy. Fola Evans-Akingbola, Ward Horton and Albert Jones are all promoted to series regulars, signaling that internal dynamics at the agency will have more narrative weight this time.

Alongside them, the series adds a slate of new players: David Lyons, Jennifer Morrison, Stephen Moyer, Genesis Rodriguez and Callum Vinson join the cast, with Suraj Sharma appearing in a recurring capacity. This blend of returning characters and newcomers sets the stage for multiple story threads and expanded relationships inside and around Night Action.

What we know about the story: action goes global

The plot itself is still being kept under wraps, but Netflix has already teased the tone and scale of what’s coming. A recent teaser zeroes in on Peter in the middle of a packed stadium, tracking a target played by Suraj Sharma. From there, the footage cuts quickly through a series of high-intensity moments: a door blasted open through flames, an enemy pulled from a moving truck, and gun-heavy operations in dense urban streets.

Shawn Ryan has summed up the ambition of season 3 with a simple promise: “We’re going to travel the world.” The goal is clear: push The Night Agent into a broader geopolitical landscape with new environments, fresh missions and shifting alliances, rather than keeping the story confined to a single city or country.

Production between Istanbul and New York State

That global approach is already visible behind the scenes. Filming kicked off in Istanbul before moving back to New York State, which has served as a key backdrop for earlier seasons. The combination of these locations underlines a commitment to grounding the show in real, varied settings rather than relying solely on studio-built environments.

Speaking from set, Gabriel Basso has described the mood as positive, noting that the “energy is good” and hinting at a larger, more ambitious season-wide arc driving the cast and crew.

A comeback backed by massive previous success

Season 3 doesn’t arrive in a vacuum. The first season of The Night Agent delivered huge numbers on Netflix, racking up 98.2 million views in 91 days and claiming the top spot in the service’s Top 10 in 87 different countries. Those results helped cement the series as one of Netflix’s signature action titles.

The new season builds directly on that momentum. By expanding its world, diversifying locations and promoting key supporting characters, the show positions itself as a long-term franchise within Netflix’s action lineup, rather than a one-off success.
